What We Can Learn From Birds

This a printable poster is partly inspired by my fascination for birds, especially how they seem to enjoy windy weather a lot. It often looks to me like they are having a party on moments like that. It is also inspired by Matthew 6: 25+26: "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"

“Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Are you not much more valuable than they?

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

(Matthew 6:25+26)

One thing I like about birds is that when the day is windy, they go out and enjoy the wind. They float on the wind, take dives, have fun. As I look at them from my window I’m always slightly jealous of them. That they are having fun. And in a way we can do the same when life feels grey to us. We can look at others and their lives look much easier and better. And we can be a bit jealous of them.

But what if, when life feels grey, we just trust in the knowledge that God is with us? That this day is full of treasures to be found. That we are planted on this earth to enjoy God. To thank Him. And just do that intentionally. Whether we feel like it or not. To dance. And think of all the ways we can thank God. To be a blessing to others.

Let’s trust Jesus’ words. And trust that He takes care of us and that there’s no point in worrying – it’s better to have a little party.
