Shadows and Light Conspiring

Every time I would listen to the song ‘Carrie & Lowell’ By Sufjan Stevens and the phrase ‘Under the pear tree, shadows and light conspiring’ would come by, I always thought: I want to make a painting of that little lyric. But it was much more difficult than I thought to paint it.
But it’s interesting that while painting you become so aware of the differences between light and darkness and that one brings out the other one. It reminds me that even dark periods in life, when lying next to a light one, can bring out tremendous beauty and joy :)
