I’ve Made A Lot Of Mistakes

Life can be difficult at times. It is easy to carry the burden of past mistakes with us every day. I made this painting to remind myself not to be weight down by the past or by the mistakes I might make in the future.

Making this painting I was inspired by the passage in the Bible where Jesus says: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11 verses 29 and 30)

The title of this painting comes from the song ‘Chicago’ by Sufjan Stevens. The lyrics depict beautifully the two parts of this life – I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but also: all things grow. There’s a way to move forward.

The text on the painting I wrote myself and says: “All the stillness you spoke / and the weight you broke / bright like a flower”
